Prevent Eye Injuries at Work, Home and at Play

Any injury of the eye has the potential to cause vision loss or blindness. Most eye injuries, however, are preventable with the use of proper eye protection. This is why it is so important to be aware of common causes of eye injury and the proper means of protection at work, at home, and at play.

At Work: Most eye injuries that occur at work result from chemical burns, foreign objects in the eye, or cuts/scrapes of the cornea. The easiest way to prevent these injuries is to wear the proper eye protection. Not all types of safety eyewear provide the same level of protection, so it is important to be aware of all the different hazards of your workplace and take this into account when choosing your eye protection. We do offer safety eyewear at our location.

At Home: Reading the manufacturers instructions and safety warnings on all equipment and household products before use can prevent most eye injuries that occur in the home. This means using correct eye protection while performing certain household duties, and using common sense when it comes to protecting your eyes.

At Play: Many injuries of the eye also occur during sports or other rigorous activities when appropriate eye protection is not used. It is critical to be aware of the correct goggles or protective eyewear needed for your particular sport. Also, it is very important to wear quality sunglasses when performing activities outside in order to protect your eyes from the harsh UV rays. We find out more all of the time how the UV from the sun damages the eyes. These changes begin at a very young age. This is why it is important to get young children into sun glasses.
